August 26th Newsletter


     
  Hi Everyone,

What is up with this HEAT??? Is this what they mean by the "dog days of Summer"? All I can say is THANK GOODNESS FOR A/C. Let's take a look at what we've got coming up in Sept and see if I can get you some "cool" shows to take your mind off the weather. We, of course, have the big 3 day Labor Day weekend, the "unofficial" end of Summer on Sept 3rd - Sept 5th. We also have the L A County Fair opening on Sept 3rd, yummy food, great exhibits, carnival rides and pig races...who could ask for more.

Now if barnyard animals and cotton candy aren't your thing, On Fri Sept 2nd - Sun Sept 4th is The Great Labor Day Cruise at the O C Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. The gates open to spectators at 12 noon on Fri and at *am on Sat and Sun, admission is $15 per person per day and $25 for a 2 day pass, kids 12 & under are FREE. The event will include an outdoor show & shine, model car contest, road challenge auto cross, Wagons Gone Wild, live bands, a Kiddie Korner and driving events. On Sat Sept 10th is the Village Grille 50's Diner Cruise Night from 5pm - 8:30pm, on Second St between Indian Hill Blvd and Harvard, there was a huge turn out of both cars and spectators at the cruise night in Aug, let's see if we can do even bigger in Sept. Also on Sat Sept 10th Street Roder Forever presents their 21st Annual Hot Rod & Custom Charity Car Show from 9am - 3pm in Downtown Historic Monrovia at Myrtle Ave ( exit from 210 freeway, go North).

On Sat Sept 10th - Sun Sept 11th is the Coastline Car Classic in Corona del Mar. The weekend starts with the Coastline Motoring Road Rally from 7:30am - 1pm, this is takes drivers through the scenic coastal and country back roads of Orange County, showcasing beautiful vintage automobiles. The journey begins at Big Corona del Mar State Beach and ends at Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club. Then on Sun Sept 11th experience the elegance, craftsmanship, and beauty of some of the most unique automobiles in Southern California. The show is held in the world class seaside location of Big Corona del Mar State Park. The Emcees for the event will be Automotive Commentators Dave Kunz (KABC) and Art Gould (KPFK). Now here is one of the biggest shows all year, on Thurs Sept 15th - Sun Sept 18th is the 22nd Annual Stater Bros Route 66 Rendezvous in Downtown San Bernardino, Thurs & Fri 6pm - 10pm, Sat 10am - 9pm, and Sun 10am - 4pm. Some of the events during the 4 days are a neon light contest on Fri, an open header contest and model car contest on Sat and a K5 Run with the Cops (starting at Arrowhead Credit Union Park). Some of the live music entertainment will include Rock n Roll Icons Chubby Checker and Chuck Berry, and the BareNaked Ladies. On Sun Sept 18th the Beach Cities Mustang Club presents Mustangs At The Queen Mary, from 10am - 4pm. This is a huge event, with over 400 Mustang, Californias' signature Muscle Cars on display and the majestic Queen Mary and Pacific Ocean as their back drop. I highly recommend you mark your calendar and attend this show.

Now if you are interested in some auction action you will want to head out to Las Vegas, NV for the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event on Thurs Sept 22 - Sun Sept 24th at the Mandalay Bay Resort. You can see live coverage of the event on SPEED channel on Thurs Sept 22nd & Fri Sept 23rd from 1pm - 8pm PDT and Sat Sept 24th from 2:30pm - 8pm PDT. Thurs Sept 22nd - Sun Sept 25th is the Orange County International Auto Show at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W Katella Ave. The event hours are Thurs 4pm - 10pm, Fri 12 noon - 10pm, Sat 9am - 10pm, Sun 9am - 7pm, and admission prices are $10 Adults, $6 Seniors, $5 Students, and Kids 12 & under are FREE. The show includes a Ride & Drive of the new models from Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Ford, GMC, Toyota, Hyundia, and VW. There will be a Porche & Bentley display featuring the new Porche Panamera and the 2012 Bentley Continental GT Coupe, also explore the cars of tomorrow with the concepts and pre-productions like the 2012 Honda CR-V Concept. And standing over 8' high don't miss the Comic-bot, King Robota, with performances Sat at 12 noon & 7pm and Sun 12 noon & 2pm. And if you're still looking for a little heat come out to Laughlin, NV for the 22nd Annual River Cruizers Roddin' On The River event at the Riverside Resort & Casino on Thurs Sept 22nd - Sun Sept 25th.

So try to stay cool, but be sure to get out and take in some hot cars this weekend, there is the Bass Pro Shop Car Show from 9am - 3pm and the Corn Feed Run in Chino from 8am - 3pm, both on Sat Aug 27th. And the final show in the Norco Bob's Big Boy Hot Rod Summer Nights Series on Wed Aug 31th from 5pm - 8pm.
